Coffeed version 3 now live

There will be a lot of tweaking in the next little while. Feedback & suggestions are welcome.

Didn't version two open a new window when you clicked on a link?

I like that feature. Please incorporate it into v3.

Also, I don't like the page listings for the longer threads. The color choices do not make the page numbers to stand out so it's easy to click on the thread and land on the original page instead of the current page (because it's hard to see - no contrast with the background).

And no yellow or orange cherries in the "Green to Rotting" masthead?

Looks great!

I do think Jay's comment on the contrast is valid - there isn't a lot of contrast on some of the links (see attached).

I did find it amusing I was just sharing the forum with Klaus and two bots. Always like to know your neighbors!

My first glance says I really like it, it looks much more professional, and I can find everything pretty easily. It seems easier to read, although I don't know why. Thanks for the hard work to improve our experience.

Some graphical issues still exists with IE browser. Mainly that IE is too dumb to recognize .png format images and interprets css a little differently. Not a high priority because most people on here are smart enough to be using firefox.

How are things looking on a Mac? How about an iPhone?

Thanks for asking!

You have to do some kind of hex edit to the .pngs to make them work. The problem is the colour table that IE 6 / 7 use with regards to png (and Microsoft has been aware of it for years, and does nothing to fix it).

We're doing it wholesale for the new CG build. It's a major PITA. I don't personally know how to do it - I just do the .pngs, send them to programming, and they run some sort of custom script on them. If you want to bother, let me know, I'll see if Wayne can help you out.

Thanks for pointing out the Firefox / IE difference.

(I'm not one of the smart ones apparently. I've grown accustomed to using IE due to previous work software requirements)

I think it looks and functions well outside of some things that were already mentioned.

Looks good on iPhone; haven't gotten it to break yet anyway.

I third (or fourth or whatever) the comments about link colour contrast. Maybe things look a little less dramatic for us than on your machine, Alistair. (And all those cherries at the top are grey, right...? Er...)

I may have misunderstood and unintentionally agreed with what Jay was saying about multi-page link colours. Rollovers and "what page you're on" highlights are in good blue; in fact there's redundancy in the text and graphics up top within a multipage thread ("2 of 4", then the 2 is lit up, etc.) Maybe Jay can clarify. I do find the brown links a little too close to the dark grey in colour tone, though, but perhaps that's my advancing age.

It's safe to say the "posts by" counters remain broken, however!

If you click on "Page 2 of 2" its a link that will ask you which page to jump to

I have sensitive eyes. My approach to the colours is to have all the noise of the links and backgrounds to be very neutral, and the post content pop out on the page. I will continue to tweak it.

Amen.

I added them but kicking and screaming at launch of our forums. I still refuse to support smileys.

1. (Colours) On the actual boards, the differentiation isn't at all troublesome, though on the /index page it could be nicer to see the links in a more vibrant colour. However I imagine that would be a systemwide style change, making the actual boards look yuckier...

2. (Post counters) Uh, you know, like over to the right there where it says I have 0 posts and you're frozen in time at 728.

3. Whoa, what the hell is going on with nested quotes? I thought I was losing my mind and then Mark posted something equally garbled while I was composing. :)

I was gonna make a comment about the anti-avatar, pro-emoticon stance, but I didn't. Now I shall do so by way of testing nested quotes.

Still wacky.

Colours have been tweaked. Got rid of the silly gradients and contrast has been increased.

Links now open in new windows. Well, most of them (posted ones, not profile ones).
