Minneapolis

Postby xristrettox on Wed Apr 11, 2007 7:30 pm

I'm rolling out to Minneapolis for a few days, and will be staying downtown.

Any suggestions on where to go?

Thanks!

I have no idea, really. I knew they opened and they worked with the guys from CarsRCoffins and Surly Bikes. I think the coffee is done by Peace Coffee, but I could be wrong.

I would love a report if you do stop by. You could probably trade espresso training for a shiny new SS or Fixie while you are out there.

Are we talking Jennifer Prince, Mark Prince, or literally Prince

Dig if u will the picture
Of u and I engaged in a kiss
The sweat of your body covers me
Can u my darling
Can u picture this?

Dream if u can a courtyard
An ocean of violets in bloom
Animals strike curious poses
They feel the heat
The heat between me and u

How can u just leave me standing?
Alone in a world thats so cold? (so cold)
Maybe Im just 2 demanding
Maybe Im just like my father 2 bold
Maybe youre just like my mother
Shes never satisfied (shes never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like

Prince literally owns half of downtown... Billy, where are you staying? I live one of the downtown neighborhoods... Places to check out that I know you will love... you whisky whore...

Britt's Pub
The Local
The Happy Gnome
The Nook (Right next door to Kopplin's)

There's an area called Uptown and it's like someone took a small neighborhood of Portland and moved to a crappy climate... It's the place to go for food... When will you be here?

I will be there April 23rd, and stay that night for sure, and possibly for the next two nights (?maybe?)

I had plans on staying downtown the first night, but after that, my plans are open. Ryan, you got a couch to crash on?

I would love to hang-out if there's folks around... but I need to know 'cause I have to book my tickets NOW!!!

This has nothing to do with coffee... but I'm reminded that my ex spilled a drink on The Artist during filming of Purple Rain - she was an extra (as was half of Minny). She's on film for all of 2 seconds, right as the Purple One is ready to get back on stage for the last encore. When he reaches Appolonia - the ex is standing opposite and has a bit of a hangdog look.

Otherwise, just two words about Minny: walleye pike

Beats salmon any day. And if you decide to eat at the Jax, you can even catch your own.

Billy,
From what I hear Kopplins is the place to go. Also Black Sheep seems to be decent. My friend Molly is opening a shop in the next month or so...Overflow Espresso Cafe...It sounds like it is going to be a real awesome place!

Be like Prince and go to First Avenue.

Or cleanse yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka...

Yeah, it looks like I'm missing out on some pretty killer shows the weekend before I go.

You're also barely missing the Kopplin's First Anniversary Celebration! However... to celebrate, we are bringing in some awesome coffees including a couple COE Brazils, and I believe a new Yerg that took my breath away in a very Top Gun, flying high kinda way... They should all still be around when you get here...

Deferio... are you coming to train Molly's crew? What's the word on her opening... I haven't heard anything since Chicago...

I know that this an old thread, but I checked out Overflow Espresso today and it was not up to par with the likes of Kopplin's and Black Sheep. The beans where burnt, very flat taste and over extracted until the "tasse" was topped off (is this because of the name of the cafe?). Took a couple of sips and just left.

It's a shame that there aren't more quality driven coffee shops in Minneapolis.

I believe the Uptown area has a good potential, even though there are many mediocre coffee shops in this area, I'm sure you could build your name up and be distinguished through your quality. Any thoughts on this if you are familiar with the area?

About Over Flow...
They have significantly fallen in quality. The cafe is more about the space than it is quality.
Oh well..
