i think the number 1 farm might be named after a tijuana discoteca by the same name "la illusion" from the '80s. A lot of coffee farmers know about it.

oh, also everyone should know that bidding on the #4 lot requires that you change your cell phone number right after the auction, and never travel in el salvador unattended again ... it's for your own good...

does anyone know why there are so many lots in the auction ... i.e. why did the jury rate so many over 84 ? Just wondering if anyone there has any insight.

nix my last post. just trying to be funny (again) . but it's not much of a joke anyway...

Well, Tom...I would say that it is because El Salvador ROCKS! :D … I do believe we did have farms that clearly stood out this year; I think this event has helped our growers tremendously to be more aware of quality specifically in harvesting perfectly ripe cherries. El Salvador has been training cuppers and roast masters to achieve better results and also investing in water systems that definitely made a difference I would guess (according to Paul Songer this made a BIG difference this year). But perhaps, we should ask any international cupper around here to let us know what they think as well…

We also had a smaller crop this year that might have helped quality overall... Anyhow, this gave us all the opportunity to show off all the beautiful coffees of this country!

Maybe Santa Ana region recovery form the eruption and rich harvest this year was one of the reason why there were many lots go to the auction.also, there were 12 winner lots came from Santa Ana region.
During cupping we always think about the character of the sample and gave the appropriate
score , to be honest those coffee were really beautiful and the national judges really did an amazing works they really selected the best lots go to the international jury stage.
I also felt there were too many lots go to the auction, some times it will not get good price for the coffee, but those winner lots they deserved to have the chance and should be credit in better price.

That's pretty friggin' cool. Is this a CoE initiative to do all this, or local to El Sal? I'd like to see this for all future auctions!

Holaaa!

Thanks for all your kind words... we are trully happy that u appreciate our efforts to bring together growers with roasters, importers and also your clients through information... anyway, everything we do is teamwork at the consejo and we feel very very excited to get positive feedback from you...

Yet, we have another exciting news for you, we'll be enjoying LIVE VIDEO from San Salvador, El Salvador so you will be able to see (or listen) what's going on during the auction... here's what u need to do:

1.Open Windows Media Player (Mac users...download WMP for mac or use quick time i really don't know but u will find a way...) and right click over the menu bar.
2.Go to the File menu and click over “Open URL” (Ctrl+U). This will display a dialog box:
3.On the dialog box you will have just to type or copy this address - http://168.243.88.66:8080 and click enter
4.The video will start buffering depending on you internet connection speed.

Auction: Thursday... June 5
6:00 AM (Los Angeles), 9:00 AM (New York), 2:00 PM (London), 3:00 PM (Oslo) and 10:00 PM (Tokyo). Looking forward to see you all bidding! ;)

Respects!

congratulations to buyers! I particularly liked #1, 2, 6, 10 and 12, I would have put my money on #6 if I had some, though great to know that one won't be shipping too far away.

I guess eight hours to get a bid in wasn't long enough, I know I was glad I could go home. Its been a long day :)

The record was broken for the highest price paid in previous auctions and feedback from Susie was the producers were very happy with the results.

Dear all!

thanks for these nice comments... we are really happy, as Steve said we broke all previous records and everyone was thrilled after the auction... I personally end up celebrating a while ago  but will resume shortly this weekend if you know what i mean!

Anyhow..very sorry for those who had trouble watching the live video we will try to get a better platform next year, if had some troubles with some firewalls but we had a lot of people that had a decent connection as well... In the meantime, here's a link with some pictures from the auction day in San Salvador: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7636502@N08

thanks and congratulations to all winning bidders and growers as well!
