2009 Brazil Cup of Excellence

The final CoE internationally-juried competition of 2009 was held in Machado, Brazil Nov 9-13. The judges, as always, had the enviable yet challenging task of selecting the true gems from the screened and above-par submissions. Of the final 26 lots that scored 84 and above, the story of the year was probably the number of winners from Bahia and the farmers driving 22 hours to accept their awards!

There are some solid CoE explanations and travelogues from:

Bruce Mullins, Coffee Bean Int'l
- pt. 2
- pt. 3

and from Stephen Hurst, Mercanta the Coffee Hunter

and more of Bruce's photos can be seen here, if you are a fb fan

To avoid the holiday chaos, Brazil typically waits to hold their auction until the new year. Samples have been distributed around the world and those who wish to support Brazil's producers in this unique way will be bidding at the online auction on Tues, Jan 19.

ooooh, Terroir bought 2 lots... the famous Serra do Bone... and Santa Helena II, which is geographically close to Santa Ines and Agua Limpa I.

Hope I get a chance to try! :)
