Liza Whitacre, you will be missed.

The coffee community lost a passionate barista trainer from Metropolis Coffee in Chicago today in a fatal bicycle accident.



I had the pleasure to formally meet Liza and Kelly (whom I stole this photo from, thanks Nishka) a short while ago, a few weeks before Coffee Talk, the Madcap/Grand Rapids jam. I was struck enough by Liza's excitement to be the official trainer at Metropolis to have a hard time not posting something to call awareness. I know Liza walked away from the Madcap jam electrified with vision and ideas to take home to Metroplis - hers will be hard shoes to fill.

Tragic news indeed. I met Liza a month ago when she came to visit us. She was dedicated and passionate about the industry she loved. She will be greatly missed, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

Just heard about this...so incredibly heart breaking.
I just met Liza at the Coffee Talk event. She really stood out with her energy and inspiring personality.
All of us in Muncie will be praying for her family and friends.

We are reeling from this loss. Anyone who spent time with Liza, any one who brushed her life had that glow rub off on them. She was so special, and we will pass on your warm thoughts and condolences to her family and friends. We are such a family, and we feel as though we lost our little sister. The one who is always there, who wants to be a part of everything. The one who did better than you on your math test, but never rubbed it in.

With a daughter who is 19 and a working Barista, this hits home in many ways. I can only imagine the devastation this brings to Liza's family. My heart goes out to her friends and family.

I wanted to say thank you for the solid. We will never forget your kindness.
